After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Grand Duke Kyrill, cousin of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, his wife Victoria Melita, and their children fled the country. In exile, they found refuge in France, notably in Saint-Briac, where they were regularly visited by Queen Marie of Romania, sister of Victoria Melita.
