Saint-Briac-sur-Mer

Les dunes de Port Hue et du Perron

Saint Briac sur Mer, an ancient fishermen's village that later became a seaside resort, consists of a ria (the downstream section of a steep-sided valley flooded by the sea) at the mouth of the River Frémur, a major point on the route followed by migratory birds in winter. In 1987, the Conseil Général (the equivalent of a country council) took action to save the sand dunes at Port Hue and Le Perron which had suffered serious damage. Marram grass was planted and fencing installed along the string of dunes which gradually reconstituted itself. Waymarked footpaths and a car park completed the visitor amenities on the site.
